Trend Spotlight: How to Decorate with Cane, Rattan, and Wicker
If you’ve walked into a Target anytime in the past six months, then you know that Cane, Rattan, and Wicker are having a moment.
The textural, woven decor items that used to be reserved for beach houses now fill every home decor store and are the ultimate vintage find.
I love how textural materials can add interest to decor. I’m a neutral-loving girl, and texture lets me use basically all different shades of white, cream, and beige to create a space that’s still beautiful and interesting.
But with so many different options out there, it can be a little overwhelming to figure out how to incorporate cane, rattan, and wicker into your home.
If you keep it simple and start small, you don’t have to totally start from scratch to get that vintage inspired, relaxing ease of these natural fiber design fixtures.
So here are some of my favorite cane, rattan, and wicker design options, in order from easiest to incorporate to more of a commitment.
Woven Vase
When I was a floral designer, I used glass vases all the time! But in my home, I prefer vases that don’t fade into the background. This woven vase looks as good with some florals or foraged greenery as it does empty on a bookshelf. If you want to add some rattan texture to your home and don’t know where to start, this is as easy as it gets! Just order and plop on a table, kitchen counter, or shelf!
Round Jute Rug
What’s just slightly more commitment than tossing a vase on an accent table? Throwing a rug under a table! This round jute rug is organic and interesting without being too ornamental and frilly. Basically, it doesn’t just look like a big doily! It’d be perfect under your kitchen table or in a gender-neutral nursery. Love it!
Cane Mirror and Hook Combo
It’s hard to say no to this mirror-and-hook combo! It may require a hammer and a nail, or even, (gasp!) a drill, but it’s so functional, it’s totally worth it!
This is perfect for that little nook right inside your front door, for that corner of your daughter’s room that collects old towels, or that back wall of your closet that would look bigger, more organized, and more cozy with a little cane mirror and hook system.
Wood & Cane Armchair
If it’s endorsed by Joanna Gains, it’s gotta be good, right? This Heart & Hand chair has tone-on-tone wood and cane, and the seat even has a little butt indentation for more comfy sitting. Now this chair is just slightly more work because it’s larger than the mirror and potentially some assembly required, but really, it’s worth it, right?
Vintage-Inspired Teak Bench
If there was one single piece of furniture that totally encapsulates my ideal home style, it’s this bench. Clean lines, vintage-inspired, quality craftsmanship and beautiful wood and cane. This is an investment piece for when you know you want to add a forever piece to your collection!
I hope you found some inspiration for how you can incorporate cane, rattan, and wicker into your home today!
